Epic SSO Sign-In for Staff

If your hospital uses Epic, clinical and dietary staff can sign in to the app by launching it from inside their EHR session instead of waiting on an emailed invite. This page covers what that sign-in looks like for staff; for how you review and approve someone’s first request, see EHR Sign-In Access Requests.

Signing in from Epic

Because Epic has already verified who someone is in order to let them launch the app, staff who sign in this way are not asked for a separate two-factor code — your hospital’s own EHR login already satisfies that requirement.

The first time a clinician launches the app from Epic, their request goes to your hospital’s administrators for approval. After that, launching from Epic again signs them in directly, taking them to the page for their role (see Role-Based Landing Page After Sign-In).

What staff see while waiting on approval

If a request is still awaiting a decision, the person sees an Access requested message letting them know their request has been sent to their administrator. If an administrator has declined the request, they see Access not available and are told to contact their administrator. If the sign-in exchange itself fails, they see We couldn’t sign you in with a description of what went wrong.

Credential handling

The app never stores or reuses the Epic login credential itself — it’s used only once, at the moment of sign-in, to confirm identity.
